It was easy for new players to feel overwhelmed, too, especially on console where players were less familiar with the mechanics of classic CRPGs. The game was still a blast to play but its presentation suffered with huge dialogue boxes that took up too much of the screen, stripping you from the beautiful world they had created. I was a huge fan of the original Divinity: Original Sin, but when it made its jump to console, something was lost in translation. Since the world and its people react to your choices and even the characters you’re using to make them, you’ll find yourself quick saving and reloading and even starting all over again just to see how differently things can play out. You’ll spend as much time exploring and getting to know the people of the world as you will slaying enemies, though, and in doing so discover one of the most engrossing long-form stories I’ve played in years.

The camera angle is isometric, perfect for the tactical and strategic elemental combat the series is known for. If you’re completely new to the series, Divinity is a turn-based RPG steeped in the computer games of yore. In this review, I’ll be focusing on what’s new to the Definitive Edition and what stood out to me as a console player. She goes over the ins and outs of the game and I would highly encourage you to give it a read to go over the basics. Rather than rest on their laurels and deliver a simple port to Xbox and PlayStation 4, Larian Studios have delivered massive updates, fixes, and quality of life improvements that make the Definitive Edition the perfect entry point for console gamers trying the game for the first time and PC diehards who missed the original release. I can guarantee that it will pull you into the fantastic world and allow you to both express yourself, and experience others’ expressions of self through the impeccable character development.Divinity: Original Sin 2 Definitive Edition will go down as one of the best RPGs of the generation. If you are a fan of RPGs, and even if you are not, I think Divinity: Original Sin 2 is definitely worth a shot. Everything in the game has a purpose or reason behind it and there is a great variety in skills which allows for a lot of different play styles. I found it very easy to immerse myself in the game and definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys unravelling a fascinating story, fight the bad guys and experience quality character creation on the way. The dialogue, character interaction (both of which have been quite obviously upgraded since the first game) and the breathtaking music that made me hum throughout my gameplay, take you into the world of Rivellon and make you feel like you are part of it.

It’s hard to explain without major story spoilers but I found it absolutely fascinating it has its fair share of twists and unexpected turns at every corner. Together you set off to complete quests and earn good (or bad) reputation for your deeds.ĭivinity: Original Sin 2 has received a lot of praises from game critics and very good reviews on how the story was approached, how the character stories developed throughout the game as well as the elements of surprise throughout the player’s journey.
Eventually, you form your own party consisting of characters that have different strengths and weaknesses. The game plays a lot like any other classic RPG you build up your character and advance in the story while picking up various other adventurers. Both the gameplay, mechanics and atmosphere are very reminiscent of games like Baldur’s gate, Icewind Dale, Pillars of Eternity and other RPGs that focus on the classic fight between good and evil, with evil seemingly having the upper hand. Set in the world of Rivellon, the game follows the main character, also known as ‘Godwoken’, as he/she tries to fight off the Voidwoken that resulted from the Veil between Void and Rivellon being broken. Divinity: Original Sin 2 is a role-playing game by the Belgian studio Larian Studios and the sequel to Divinity: Original Sin whose action happens in the distant past.
